Stepping into the iconic Eiffel Tower is a dream for many travelers. But is the dining experience worth the hype, or just a tourist trap designed to separate you from your euros?
Feeling a bit smug, we bypassed the long lines for the elevator, our VIP status granted by our reservation at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant. Our hearts were set on a romantic evening of French wine, delectable cuisine, and breathtaking views. But what if this iconic landmark served up bland food, cheap wine, and endless tour groups?
Anticipation and excitement buzzed in the air as we joined other eager diners in the exclusive elevator, our eyes glued to the glittering city below. The grand double doors swung open at precisely 6:30 pm, ushering us into a bustling yet elegant scene. Separate areas were reserved for tour groups, while couples and small groups enjoyed intimate tables.
58 Tour Eiffel offers three pre-booked dinner menus, ranging in price from €100 to €140, with varying table locations and wine pairings. Our mid-priced option, promising a “privileged” view of the Trocadéro, turned out to be just as stunning as the most expensive tables, just one row back from the window.
The restaurant exuded an elegant brasserie vibe, the minimalist furnishings and soft lighting complementing the panoramic view. The City of Lights twinkled below, creating a truly enchanting ambiance.
With two two-hour seatings per night, 58 Tour Eiffel ran like a well-oiled machine, yet our friendly waiter managed to make us feel like we had all the time in the world.
The first course arrived: spiced king prawns artfully arranged on a bed of avocado, grapefruit, and edible flowers. This dish, far exceeding our expectations for a “tourist restaurant,” set the tone for a delightful dining experience.
The roast herbed guinea fowl breast, served with mashed potato, green asparagus, and mushroom cream, was quintessentially French and equally impressive. My husband’s grilled lamb proved equally delicious.
A rich chocolate marquise for dessert provided a sweet ending, leaving us ample time to savor the view and sip another glass of wine. And what better way to conclude our evening than with a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, of course?
58 Tour Eiffel surpassed our expectations, delivering an exceptional dining experience with delicious food, attentive service, and an unforgettable setting.
