A Love Affair with the Eiffel Tower: My Parisian Journey

The Eiffel Tower, a symbol of Paris, has held a special place in my heart since the moment I first laid eyes on it. Twenty years old, landing in France for the first time, I stepped into my then-boyfriend’s (now-husband) family home, where every window offered a breathtaking view of the lush Jardin du Luxembourg with the Eiffel Tower in the distance. It was an incredible sight!

The Eiffel Tower became my “everyday” view a year later when I moved to France. The charm of Paris, particularly the iconic “Iron Lady,” never faded. Even during the gray, brutal winter months, the Eiffel Tower remained a dependable beacon. The early morning fog might occasionally conceal her, but her champagne lights would sparkle every day at sunset, a magnificent display choreographed by her light-sensitive twilight sensors. The first five-minute sparkle after dusk, followed by hourly illuminations until 11 PM, was a nightly ritual I eagerly awaited.

The Eiffel Tower has captivated me for a decade, and our “love affair” shows no signs of ending.

The Best Spots to Admire the Eiffel Tower

For those visiting Paris, the Eiffel Tower is a must-see attraction. Standing tall at 324 meters, the majestic structure is impossible to miss from almost any point in the city. The brainchild of architect Gustave Eiffel, this icon’s breathtaking lighting is a testament to the genius of Pierre Bideau.

To fully appreciate the beauty and grandeur of the Eiffel Tower, there are certain spots that offer unparalleled views. Whether you’re seeking the perfect photo opportunity or simply a breathtaking vista of the sparkling tower at night, these locations are sure to impress.

The Trocadero: A Panoramic View of Parisian Splendor

The Trocadero, located just across the Seine River, is a popular and exceptional spot for viewing the Eiffel Tower. This platform offers a stunning panoramic vista, particularly enchanting at night when the tower is illuminated. The Trocadero was designed specifically to provide a magnificent perspective of the Eiffel Tower, and it’s undoubtedly a must-see attraction in Paris.

During cherry blossom season, an early morning visit to the Trocadero is highly recommended. The gardens are adorned with beautiful cherry blossoms, creating a picturesque scene that perfectly complements the Eiffel Tower. It’s an unforgettable way to begin your day in the city.

Champ de Mars: A Relaxing Retreat at the Tower’s Base

Champ de Mars, a sprawling park located at the base of the Eiffel Tower, offers an abundance of green space for picnicking, relaxation, and admiring the views. It’s a great respite from the long lines for ascending the tower. Enjoy a leisurely picnic with a baguette and cheese in this charming park, a perfect spot for families, children, and young adults alike. With carousels, jungle gyms, and spacious areas for play, Champ de Mars caters to all ages.

Unforgettable Views from Above and Beyond

If you’re planning to ascend the Eiffel Tower, purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. Although a ticket office is available at the base of the tower, lines can be lengthy during peak travel seasons.

For a refined dining experience with an incredible view, consider Les Ombres, a restaurant located atop the Musée de Quai Branley. The restaurant boasts panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass windows, offering a spectacular perspective of the Eiffel Tower.

A Seine river cruise offers a unique perspective of the Eiffel Tower from the water. This enchanting experience allows you to admire the city from a different vantage point. Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf, conveniently located in the city center, offers delightful cruises. While a ticket is required, the small cost is well worth the breathtaking views. Dinner cruises with Yachts de Paris are also highly recommended.

Historical Perspectives and Hidden Gems

For a more historical view of the Eiffel Tower, venture to the Arc de Triomphe, located at the end of the Champs-Elysees. This iconic monument offers a stunning view of the tower in the distance, making it a fantastic spot for photographs. The Arc de Triomphe is also the starting point for the Bastille Day military parade.

Access to the Arc de Triomphe is through a designated stairway located under the roundabout. Purchase tickets for access to the top at the ticket office or online.

Hidden gems often offer the most captivating views. The Musée National Eugène Delacroix, a lesser-known museum with a lovely park behind it, provides a stunning vista of the Eiffel Tower. The steps at the rear of the museum offer a truly remarkable perspective.

Monsieur Bleu Pont Neuf, located across from the Palais de Tokyo, offers another hidden gem. The terrace seating at this restaurant boasts beautiful views of the Eiffel Tower in the distance.

Pont Neuf, with its charming cubbies, offers a magical perspective of the Seine, the Louvre, the Académie Française, the Pont des Arts, and, of course, the sparkling Eiffel Tower. It’s a truly enchanting place to enjoy the beauty of Paris.
