A Romantic Evening at the Eiffel Tower: Our Experience

A Paris trip is incomplete without visiting the iconic Eiffel Tower. My husband and I had the pleasure of experiencing its grandeur on a Saturday in August. We decided to ascend to the summit, but my husband’s anxiety kicked in during our climb. We had to turn back, and unfortunately, a refund was not possible despite our request within minutes of purchasing the tickets. This left us a little disappointed.

Tips for Conquering the Eiffel Tower

We opted for the combination of stairs and elevator, climbing to the second level and taking the lift to the top. It’s a cheaper option and allows you to savor the beauty of the tower at different heights. We enjoyed a break at the first level, where we relaxed, had some food, and soaked in the vibrant atmosphere. Remember to pack a sweater or jacket for the chilly breeze at the top. The view is simply breathtaking, especially at sunset when the tower sparkles with twinkling lights.

Planning Your Visit: Tips and Tricks

To avoid long lines, book your tickets in advance, especially during peak season. We booked ours for the second floor the day before and still had to wait for about 20 minutes. Be sure to have a euro or two handy for the binoculars, which enhance the views.

Experiencing the Eiffel Tower’s Magic

The Eiffel Tower is truly an impressive feat of engineering. We were surprised to find it closed earlier than expected at 10:45 pm on a Friday night in June. This also affected the closure of restrooms and the RER A train, making our return journey a little more challenging.

Maximizing Your Parisian Adventure

For first-time visitors, climbing the Eiffel Tower is a must-do. To make the experience even more enriching, consider joining a guided tour. Not only will you enjoy panoramic views, but you’ll also gain fascinating insights into the tower’s history and construction.

Evening Delights at the Eiffel Tower

A picnic under the Eiffel Tower is a magical experience. Bring a bottle of wine, some cheese and crackers, and enjoy the twinkling lights while sharing the moment with fellow visitors. We were fortunate to witness this spectacle in May before the Olympics, despite the numerous fences erected for the event.

Exploring Paris: Beyond the Eiffel Tower

While the Eiffel Tower is a highlight, Paris offers a plethora of other attractions. Skip the Louvre and Champs-Élysées and stroll through the Tuileries and the Latin Quarter. Engage with locals, learning some basic French to enhance your interactions. The Metro and the “river taxi” are convenient ways to explore the city. Enjoy cafe au lait at outdoor cafes, appreciate the historical architecture, and take your time to soak in the Parisian charm.

Hidden Gems and Budget-Friendly Tips

Discover the hidden playgrounds and visit the Jardin du Luxembourg, budget for carousel rides, and enjoy the view from the Ferris wheel in the Jardin des Tuileries. It’s a more affordable alternative to the Eiffel Tower.

A Family-Friendly Eiffel Tower Experience

For families with children, going early in the morning is key. Taking the stairs can be fun for children, and the queues are shorter at this time.

Avoiding Overcrowding and Enjoying the Nighttime Sparkle

The Eiffel Tower can get crowded, so arriving early is advisable. We were unfortunately denied access to the top due to overcrowding. Paris at night is truly mesmerizing, especially when the Eiffel Tower sparkles. Don’t miss this magical sight.
