A Nightmare Stay: A Review of the “Hotel” Near Palais de Tokyo

Prepare to be horrified! I’m here to warn you about a place that should never be called a hotel. It’s a complete disaster. From the moment I booked, it was a nightmare.

Hotel Palym

A Booking Debacle

Just 24 hours before my arrival, I received a call at 10:30 PM. They informed me, with zero apology, that my Concorde Executive Suite was unavailable. Instead, I was being downgraded to the Eiffel Room. This was a massive disappointment considering I booked weeks in advance. When I demanded a full refund, they blamed a “double booking,” acting like it was my fault. After contacting Book.com, they finally relented and promised my original suite.

A Nightmarish Arrival

The nightmare continued upon my arrival in Paris. Finding this “hotel,” which is really just apartments, was a struggle. The code I was given didn’t work, leaving me stranded outside for two hours with no phone service. The place looked nothing like the photos. It was dark, dirty, and completely unwelcoming. I was told I couldn’t check in yet but could leave my bags and come back at 3 PM. A cleaner gave me a phone to speak to the manager. He laughed when I explained the situation, claiming someone else had already checked into my booked room.

A Rude Awakening

At 3 PM, the owner, a rude and arrogant man, finally showed me the “suite.” It was a small, dark room, far from the luxurious suite I had booked. The walls were damaged, and the door was chipped. When I demanded a refund, he scoffed and told me to “go stay at the Four Seasons.” He refused to return my money and basically kicked me out into the street. I lost £1100 and had to frantically find another hotel.

This place is a disgrace. Don’t even think about staying here!

A Mixed Experience: A Review of a Hotel Near the Moulin Rouge

This hotel is a bit of a mixed bag. There are some positives and some serious negatives.

Hôtel Mercure Paris Opéra Louvre

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The positives: We received a warm welcome from the receptionist upon arrival. He was friendly, helpful, and even gave us some local restaurant recommendations. The location is decent, with the Metro station just a short walk away. However, the strike meant that we had to rely on walking. There are some nice shops and restaurants in the area, and it’s about a 30-minute walk to the Louvre. The Moulin Rouge is also nearby, although the walk is through a rather seedy area.

Now for the negatives: The rooms were much smaller than the photos suggested, and while they seemed clean, they had a slightly grubby feel. The bathroom door was broken and the hairdryer was unreliable. The air conditioning units were filthy, and the walls were peeling in the bathroom. The shower cubicles were also extremely small.

Breakfast was okay, but the service was inconsistent. One morning, the lady serving breakfast was unhelpful and took ages to bring me gluten-free bread. The next day, it took 20 minutes for them to refill the orange juice. The other staff members were also less than helpful. One was constantly on his phone or watching Tik Tok videos, and the other couldn’t book a taxi for us due to the strike, offering no alternative suggestions.

A Run-Down Hotel in Need of TLC

Overall, this hotel is very dated and in need of some serious TLC. Maybe we just got unlucky with our rooms, but our experience was not good.

Hotel Royal Mansart

A Positive Stay: A Review of a Hotel Near Bercy Village

This hotel is located in a charming area of Paris. Bercy Village, with its shops and restaurants, is right across the square. The Metro station is only a 2-minute walk away, and the area is well-lit and safe, day or night.

We got a taxi from the airport for the set rate of €55. The hotel staff were helpful and had already arranged our family rooms together. I booked a room with a balcony, which had a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower, especially at night.

The breakfast was delicious and included a variety of hot and cold options. The staff was helpful with booking our return taxi and printing out boarding passes and attraction tickets. The WiFi was strong throughout the hotel.

This hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay in Paris. It was my second time staying here, and it was just as lovely as I remembered. I highly recommend it.
