It’s a common saying: “Paris is always beautiful, even under grey skies.” But when will the rain finally end? With summer just around the corner, we’re all itching to enjoy those sunny Parisian terraces and cool off in the city’s swimming spots. Let’s dive into the forecast and see when we can expect some much-needed sunshine.
Missing the Sun in Paris? ☀️
Paris is undeniably enchanting, regardless of the weather. But even the most devoted Parisian can’t help but crave a little warmth and sunshine. With those grey skies dominating our views, we’re all starting to ask the same question: When will the rain stop in Paris? We dream of relaxing on sunny terraces and strolling through the city’s parks while soaking up the glorious blue sky.
Cloudy Skies and Thunderstorms ⛈️
Unfortunately, the immediate outlook for Paris and the north of France isn’t looking bright. This June, we’ve been stuck in a cycle of showers, thunderstorms, and blustery winds. Summer seems to be lagging behind, leaving us yearning for the warm days we all expect.
According to Météo-France, the downpours will continue into the early part of the week, with thunderstorms even on the horizon.
A Glimpse of Sunshine, But Short-Lived 🌤️
There’s a glimmer of hope on Wednesday, as the sun is expected to make a brief appearance across the country. However, thunderstorms are still predicted on the Atlantic coast. And just as we start to feel the warmth, another wave of rain will arrive on Thursday, bringing showers across the entire nation.
Sunny Weekends, Maybe? ☀️
The weekend is shaping up to be sunnier for most of France, with only a few isolated showers anticipated on Saturday in the Massif Central and eastern France. Will this finally be the start of a sustained sunny spell? Or will we have to wait even longer for the true arrival of summer?
A Cool Start to June 🥶
We’ve barely seen any temperatures above the seasonal norm since mid-May. Météo-France reported that temperatures were around 3 degrees below average on June 11, 12, and 13. The first two weeks of June in Paris were the coolest since June 2001!
A Shift in Weather Patterns 🌬️
The recent chilly and unsettled weather has been attributed to a descent of polar air from Greenland. A low-pressure system settled over the British Isles, pushing the high pressure further out to sea. While this is a moderate weather pattern, it’s the culprit behind our recent cool spell.
A Striking Contrast 🌡️
The current weather feels particularly gloomy when you compare it to last June, which was exceptionally warm. In June 2023, the average temperature was 2.6 degrees above normal, whereas this year it’s around 1 degree below normal.
A Potential Shift in the Forecast ☀️
There’s a possibility of a change starting on June 20, with the potential return of the Azores anticyclone. This could bring calmer, sunnier weather starting around June 23. However, June overall is not expected to be particularly hot, and temperatures will likely remain relatively cool for the time of year.
What About the Fête de la Musique? 🎶
The Fête de la Musique is right around the corner, and many people are eagerly anticipating the exciting program of free concerts. But what’s the weather forecast for the evening of June 21st? Will the rain dampen the celebratory spirit?
Waiting for the Sun ☀️
While the sunshine may be hiding for a bit longer, we can still enjoy all that Paris has to offer, regardless of the weather. We’ve compiled some fun rainy-day activities to help you make the most of your time in the City of Lights.
So, keep your eyes peeled for those first rays of sunshine, and let’s hope summer arrives soon! ☀️
