Our team is absolutely smitten with Paris! It consistently ranks as one of our favorite destinations, captivating us with its art, breathtaking views, and melodious music. But let’s be honest, nothing quite steals our hearts like the city’s gastronomic delights. The Parisian restaurant scene is a treasure trove of culinary experiences, constantly evolving and offering something new with every visit. Beyond the classic viennoiseries (those heavenly pastries!), Paris is home to innovative Korean cuisine, dishes reflecting the rich history of the Jewish diaspora, and, of course, an abundance of unforgettable bistros. With such a diverse and enticing culinary landscape, we’ve curated a list of 17 restaurants that have captured our hearts. Let’s embark on this delicious journey together!
Where Vegetables Take Center Stage: Tèkes
Nestled in the heart of Paris’s 2nd arrondissement, Tèkes is a celebration of the humble vegetable. Brought to life by the team behind acclaimed Mediterranean-Israeli restaurants like Shabour in Paris and Machneyuda in Jerusalem, Tèkes is a testament to their culinary prowess. The open kitchen, where the charcoal grill takes center stage, is the heart and soul of the restaurant. It’s where the team crafts vibrant and shareable dishes that draw inspiration from a range of Jewish culinary traditions. Imagine indulging in a generous bowl of fattoush salad, its refreshing flavors enhanced by creamy labneh, or savoring burnt cabbage dressed in a fragrant za’atar chimichurri. For a vegetarian twist on a classic, try their creamy chicken liver alternative. The restaurant boasts an impressive wine list that spans the Mediterranean, complemented by a selection of plant-based cocktails and juices. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with earthy tones and design touches like mesh shelves showcasing fresh produce and elegant terracotta earthenware. Tèkes is the perfect spot for a leisurely lunch bathed in natural light or a long, enjoyable dinner where you can truly savor the flavors and ambiance.
Beyond the Bistro: Oozbatz
If you’re seeking a refreshing break from the traditional Parisian bistro, Oozbatz is your answer. This restaurant began as a pizza pop-up at Le Rigamarole, a captivating Japanese-inspired tasting menu space, where their slow-fermented sourdough crust quickly garnered a loyal following. The demand for their exceptional pizza was so fervent that finding a permanent home became a necessity. Oozbatz finally opened its doors this year, offering a focused and exciting menu featuring pizzas adorned with white asparagus and preserved lemon, or miniature meatballs with red onion and chives. The cool, blonde wood dining room exudes a modern and airy feel, a welcome respite from the traditional Parisian settings. Don’t miss out on the “surprise du chef” pizza, a delightful culinary adventure. Last month, it was adorned with rich duck ragu and melty cheese, a truly unforgettable experience. Forget the steak au poivre for a night, and embrace the joy of pizza in Paris!
A Culinary Haven for the Weary Traveler: Elmer
Last summer, our team arrived in Paris, our bodies weary from the journey. As we battled the initial wave of jet lag, we were comforted by the knowledge that our first dinner would be at Elmer. Located on a tranquil street in the northern Marais district, just steps away from the picturesque Canal Saint-Martin, Elmer is a modern bistro with a welcoming and unpretentious atmosphere. The dishes are a symphony of lightness and precision, each one feeling completely original. Imagine delicate crudo nestled within wafer-thin pastry shells, a savory seasonal fruit salad arranged like a geometric work of art, or perfectly sliced faux-filet steak alongside creamy eggplant slices. The desserts are equally exquisite, especially the vanilla hazelnut praline tart for two, a sweet treat that brought us back to life and helped us adjust to the Parisian time zone. Elmer is a true culinary haven, offering a taste of refined Parisian dining in a comfortable and stylish setting.
