Ah, Paris! Even when veiled in gray skies, the City of Lights holds a certain charm. However, we all yearn for the sun to break through those clouds. With summer on our doorstep, we eagerly anticipate the warmth of the season – time to bask on outdoor terraces and take a refreshing dip in the water. Let’s dive into the weather forecast and see if we can catch a glimpse of sunshine.
Paris Under a Gray Sky
Paris, in all its glory, can be enchanting regardless of the weather. Rain, snow, or sunshine, the city never fails to offer a plethora of exciting experiences. Yet, we can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when the Parisian skies remain stubbornly gray. As the rain stretches on, we long for a glimmer of sunshine, craving those sunny days that make us feel truly alive.
The Longing for Sun
With so much gray in the air, the question on everyone’s mind is: when will the rain finally stop? Even though there are cozy spots to seek refuge from the weather, we can’t help but dream of strolling along sunny streets, enjoying al fresco dining, and feeling the warmth of the sun on our faces.
A Peek at the Forecast: When Will the Sun Shine Again?
This June, the weather in Paris and Northern France isn’t looking particularly promising. Summer is almost here, but the sun seems to be playing hide-and-seek. Storms, showers, and blustery winds are making their presence felt. According to Meteo-France, this gloomy weather pattern is expected to continue into the beginning of the week, with the threat of thunderstorms looming.
Looking Ahead: A Glimpse of Sunshine
The beginning of the week looks a bit damp, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 26°C. Paris, Normandy, and the English Channel can expect showers. On the other hand, the south of France is basking in sunshine with temperatures reaching a toasty 31°C in Marseille. While it’s tempting to escape to the south, we’ll stick with Paris for now!
A ray of sunshine is predicted for Wednesday, but it might be a fleeting moment. While thunderstorms are expected on the Atlantic coast, temperatures will rise to 31°C. However, the first day of summer on Thursday is likely to be disrupted by another round of rain. Despite the showers, temperatures will remain stable.
A Sunny Weekend?
The weekend looks promising for most of France, with a few scattered showers possible on Saturday afternoon in the Massif Central and Eastern France. The big question is, will summer finally make a grand entrance?
A Glimpse into the Past: A Cool June
Since mid-May, we’ve only had a handful of days with temperatures above average. According to Meteo-France, temperatures were notably lower than usual around June 11, 12, and 13. In fact, the first two weeks of June were the coolest in Paris since 2001.
The recent chill can be attributed to a dip in polar air, bringing a wave of cool, unsettled weather. A low-pressure system from Greenland settled over the British Isles, pushing high-pressure conditions offshore. While this situation is relatively moderate, it explains the cool weather we’ve been experiencing.
A Gloomy Contrast
The gloomy weather feels even more noticeable when we compare it to the unusually warm June of last year. In 2023, June temperatures were 2.6°C above average, compared to around 1°C below average this year. This stark contrast makes the current cool spell even more noticeable.
Hope on the Horizon
There is a sliver of hope on the horizon! From June 20 onward, the Azores anticyclone might make a comeback, bringing a chance of calmer, sunnier weather around June 23. However, June isn’t expected to be particularly hot, with temperatures remaining relatively cool for the season.
Will the Fête de la Musique Be Rained Out?

Will thunderstorms or heavy rain threaten to dampen the festivities? Let’s check the forecast and see what awaits us. [Read more]
