Paris, the City of Lights, is famous for its romance, culture, and cuisine. But what about the weather? The weather in Paris varies greatly throughout the year, so it’s important to know what to expect before you go.
Weather in Paris: A Seasonal Guide
Paris experiences four distinct seasons, each with its own unique charm. Whether you’re dreaming of springtime strolls through lush gardens or cozy winter evenings with a glass of wine, there’s a perfect time to visit Paris for every traveler.
Spring in Paris (March – May)
Spring in Paris is a delightful time to visit, with temperatures gradually warming from the chill of winter. March starts off a little chilly, with average highs around 54°F (12°C), but by May, the weather becomes very pleasant, reaching 68°F (20°C) – ideal for exploring the city’s beautiful parks and gardens.
Keep in mind that nights can still be quite cool, and light showers are common throughout the season. It’s always a good idea to pack a lightweight jacket with a hood, just in case!
[Stay at the La Musique apartment in the Marais, a gorgeous two-bedroom apartment, so you can explore the neighborhood around you and also enjoy a great home.]
Summer in Paris (June – August)
Summer in Paris is the peak tourist season and brings with it warm, sunny days and pleasant evenings. Expect daily highs of at least 83°F (25°C) and cool nights around 55°F (13°C).
This is the driest time of year in Paris, so be sure to pack your sunglasses! While the temperatures may not seem very high, humidity can make Paris feel warmer.
[My favorite idea is to picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower on the Champs de Mars Gardens while the sunlight lights up your day until 10pm! We recommend the Calvados apartment nearby, a great price with an Eiffel view! When you’re out and about on a sunny summer day in the French capital, be sure to keep a water bottle with you to stay hydrated.]
Autumn in Paris (September – November)
Autumn in Paris is a magical time to visit, with vibrant colors, cooler temperatures, and fewer crowds.
Locals are back from their summer vacations, and there’s a lively atmosphere in the air. The weather starts to cool down in October, but if you’re prepared with a jacket, you can enjoy long walks through stunning neighborhoods and strolls along the Seine River.
Be prepared for the occasional chilly rain shower and some wind. Daily highs range from 46°F (8°C) to 62°F (17°C), so pack accordingly!
Winter in Paris (December – February)
Winter in Paris is a truly special time of year, with festive lights, cozy cafes, and the magic of the holiday season. While the days are shorter and the weather is definitely colder, the City of Lights shines brightly, and the city is even more romantic with a light dusting of snow.
Expect daily highs around 46°F (8°C) and nighttime temperatures near freezing. Be sure to dress warmly and take advantage of the winter sales in the city’s charming boutiques and shopping malls.
[Despite shorter days and decidedly wetter weather, winter is truly a special time of year in Paris. Staying true to its City of Light moniker, the French capital sparkles under the glow of festive holiday lights. Rent an apartment with a City view, such as Chambertin or Cognac and you’ll love spending afternoons with a glass of wine and crusty baguette — cozy and warm at home while the Eiffel Tower lights up right in front of you!]
