Paris: A Foodie’s Paradise

Paris, the city of love, is also a city that tantalizes your taste buds. My recent trip to the French capital was a culinary adventure, and I’m excited to share my favorite spots with you. From breakfast pastries to dinner delights, I’ve got you covered. So, grab your travel guide, bookmark this page, and prepare to embark on a gastronomic journey through Paris!

Breakfast Bliss: Pastries, Bread, and More

Let’s talk about breakfast, a crucial part of any Parisian adventure. While the classic croissant is a must-try, I’m here to share my picks for the most memorable breakfast experiences.

Du Pain et des Idées is a must-visit for any bread enthusiast. The signature “pain des amis” bread will leave you speechless. This charming shop, housed in an 1875 building with beautifully painted ceilings, offers a delightful setting. Enjoy your pastries and coffee outside or take them away for a picnic by the nearby Canal de l’Ourcq. I opted for an escargot with pistachio, an apricot tart, and a salty pastry with cheese and bacon.

Blé Sucré, a quaint patisserie tucked away near the Trousseau square, is another gem. Their pain au chocolat is a masterpiece—freshly baked and soft, it melts in your mouth. Founded by Fabrice Le Bourdat, a former pastry chef at the three-star Michelin restaurant Le Bristol, this bakery boasts Paris’ best madeleines according to Le Figaro.

For a more modern brunch experience, head to Sunday in Soho. And if you’re near the Père Lachaise cemetery, stumble upon Clint, a delightful spot for a final brunch before leaving the city.

Other breakfast havens I had on my wish list include:

  • Restaurant Drouant, a historic Art Deco restaurant perfect for a leisurely brunch.
  • Laurent Duchêne, a fantastic takeaway franchise bakery known for its award-winning croissants.
  • Le Loir dans La Théiere, a bohemian tea, cake, and brunch haven.

Lunchtime Delights: From Italian Gems to Danish Terraces

Lunchtime in Paris is a time to savor the city’s diverse culinary landscape. Whether you’re craving Italian comfort food or a Danish escape amidst the hustle and bustle of the Champs Élysées, I’ve got recommendations for you.

After a failed attempt at visiting the Catacombs, we stumbled upon I Grappoli, a charming Italian restaurant on a street corner brimming with locals. Their bruschetta, pizza, and Italian wine will transport you to the heart of Italy.

For a more lively ambiance, check out Flora Danica, a Danish restaurant on the Champs Élysées. Don’t be fooled by its seemingly ordinary facade—hidden green terraces await in the back, offering a serene retreat from the city’s energy.

Dinnertime Adventures: From Modern French to Authentic Vietnamese

Parisian evenings are made for indulging in fine dining or exploring exotic cuisines. I have two dinner recommendations that cater to different palates.

For a romantic evening, La Causerie is a must-visit. This modern French restaurant, featuring seasonal products and a Michelin-starred reputation, delivers a truly memorable experience. Gnocchis a la Parisienne truffés and boeuf de pole pané, courses et champignons are just two of the exquisite dishes you can savor here.

If you’re seeking a more casual and flavorful experience, Mamatchai is your go-to. This Vietnamese restaurant offers delicious pad thai and pho dishes. I was initially hesitant, but the flavorful and authentic food left me pleasantly surprised.

Other elegant dining options on my radar include:

  • Bistrotters
  • Les Petits Parisiens
  • Bistrot Paul Bert

Drinks and Snacks: Parisian Evenings with a Twist

Parisian evenings are best enjoyed with a glass of wine and a delicious snack. Here are a few places that will elevate your after-dinner experience.

My absolute favorite spot in Paris is Avant Comptoir de la Terre. This tiny bar boasts an incredible tapas selection and an extensive wine list. Whether you’re indulging in their delicious bread with mountains of butter, their fondue, or a croque monsieur, you’re in for a treat. The intimate atmosphere will make you want to stay all night.

For a cozy and intimate wine bar, head to Ma Cave Fleury. The contrast of fine wine and champagne served in a simple bar surrounded by sex clubs adds a touch of Parisian charm.

Other drink destinations I had on my list:

  • Septime La Cave (reservations required)
  • Le Mary Celeste in Le Marais

A Sweet Finale: Macarons and Memories

No Parisian trip is complete without a Ladurée macaron. Although I’m not a huge macarons fan, I couldn’t resist grabbing one at their stunning Champs Élysées location and another dozen at the airport.

From the charming pastries of Du Pain et des Idées to the romantic ambiance of La Causerie, my Paris food journey was unforgettable. I hope my guide helps you create your own delicious memories in this city of culinary wonders.
