A Day at the Louvre: Art, History, and Treasures
The Louvre is a must-see for any visitor to Paris, regardless of their interest in art. As the world’s largest museum, it houses a treasure trove of artifacts and masterpieces spanning millennia and civilizations. From ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics to French Crown Jewels, the Louvre’s diverse collection will captivate you.
If you’re a museum pass holder, you can enjoy free entry! (Find out more about how to vacation in Paris on a budget in our previous posts.)
The Louvre is vast, so it’s wise to pick a few highlights and plan a route. Don’t miss the Mona Lisa, a masterpiece that draws crowds for a reason, and the French Crown Jewels, a dazzling display of exquisite craftsmanship.
Tip: The Egyptian galleries are extensive, so be mindful of your time. Keep an eye out for exits if you want to change course.
Galeries Lafayette: A Shopping Paradise
Step into Galeries Lafayette, a magnificent shopping haven with a unique layout. The open concept design makes it easy to navigate, but it can also be overwhelming, especially for first-timers.
Each floor is dedicated to a specific product category, making it easy to find items you’re looking for. But if you’re searching for different products from the same brand, you might find yourself hopping between floors.
There’s an app that can make your shopping experience much smoother. It provides your location within the mall and helps you find specific stores. Highly recommended!
Don’t be surprised if you encounter high-end brands towards the center of the mall. It’s an interesting experience, but don’t forget that the Galeries Lafayette store itself offers a wide variety of affordable options.
Evening in Paris: A View from Montparnasse Tower
After a day of exploration and shopping, treat yourself to an unforgettable view of Paris at night from the Montparnasse Tower. This iconic building offers a panoramic perspective of the city from its rooftop observation deck.
For about 18 euros per person, you can ascend to the 56th floor and witness the city’s splendor. You’ll find an interactive area showcasing the city’s development over time and a cafe for a relaxing break.
But the real magic happens on the rooftop terrace. From here, you’ll have an unobstructed view of the Eiffel Tower and iconic landmarks like the Sacré-Cœur, the Louvre, and the Arc de Triomphe, all beautifully illuminated against the night sky.
This breathtaking view is the perfect way to end your Parisian adventure. It’s a moment you won’t soon forget!
