Prepare for an unforgettable experience at one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit, please read these important tips and instructions before you arrive.
This guide covers everything from acceptable luggage size to stroller guidelines and even smartphone safety. We want to make sure everyone has a wonderful time at the Eiffel Tower.
Security Measures: Staying Safe
Like many public places in France, the Eiffel Tower has strict security measures in place. These measures are designed to protect everyone, so please be patient and cooperate with our security staff. You’ll undergo two security checks: one at the main entrance and another before reaching the elevator or stairs.
These checks are crucial and are part of the “Vigipirate” plan, France’s national security protocol. We take your safety seriously.
What Can (and Can’t) You Bring?
To ensure everyone’s safety, certain items are prohibited inside the Eiffel Tower. These include anything that could pose a risk to people, the building, or the monument itself.
For example, a Swiss Army knife is considered a weapon and won’t be allowed. We recommend carefully checking your bags before your visit.
Our security team is committed to safety and cannot make exceptions for any prohibited items.
Luggage Limits: Planning Your Visit
It’s understandable that you want to make the most of your time in Paris. However, large luggage isn’t permitted inside the Eiffel Tower for safety and comfort reasons.
There are no luggage lockers or storage facilities at or near the tower. Before your visit, please consider arranging storage for your luggage at your hotel or a nearby train station. A luggage sizer is available at the security checkpoint to help you determine if your luggage is too large.
Families Welcome: Stroller Guidelines
The Eiffel Tower is a fantastic place for families! Children under 4 enter for free, and we encourage you to bring strollers for the little ones.
However, only folding strollers are allowed to keep walkways clear. Unfortunately, scooters and bicycles are not permitted due to their size. If you’re bringing rollerblades or skates, they must be stored in a bag and cannot be used during your visit.
Keep Your Belongings Safe: Safety Tips
It may seem simple, but never leave your bags or strollers unattended.
In a high-security environment, finding an abandoned bag can trigger significant safety measures, including evacuating a floor or calling in bomb disposal services.
Please be mindful and keep your personal belongings close at hand.
Lost and Found: Don’t Panic!
Have you misplaced something? Don’t worry! If you’re still at the tower and know where you left the item, report it to a member of our reception team or the Information Desk.
If you realize you’ve lost something after your visit, check our “Lost Property” service.
Safe Selfie Taking: Stay Safe!
The Eiffel Tower’s views are breathtaking, and it’s tempting to reach for your phone or camera for the perfect shot.
However, leaning over railings or gates for photos is extremely dangerous. Phones or devices could easily slip and fall, causing harm to those below.
Please inform your children of this important safety rule.
Fear of Heights: Enjoy the View!
If you have a fear of heights, we advise against going to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
However, the climb from the second floor offers a breathtaking experience with panoramic views. If heights are a concern, consider purchasing tickets for access to the second floor only.
This will allow you to enjoy the first and second floors and still get incredible views of Paris.
