A Parisian Delight: Dining at the Eiffel Tower

Feeling a sense of pride, we breeze past the endless lines for the elevator, joining the shorter queue reserved for those dining at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant.

Stepping onto the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, we’re about to embark on an evening of French wines, exquisite cuisine, and romantic ambiance. Or, at least that’s the hope.

There’s a chance we might be in for a two-hour dining nightmare with uninspired food, cheap wine, and the constant buzz of tour groups.

The iconic iron structure looms above, filling us with excitement as we jostle for the best views in the exclusive elevator, eager for a glimpse of Paris and our dinner venue.

Anticipation and impatience build as we gather near the grand double doors, which open precisely at 6:30 pm. Within minutes, everyone is seated across the restaurant’s two levels. Tour groups are strategically placed in a separate area, distinct from the more intimate tables for two and four.

Parisian Elegance

58 Tour Eiffel offers three pre-booked dinner options, ranging in price from $118 to $165, depending on table location and wine inclusion.

We’re fortunate to have booked a mid-priced ‘privileged seating in the main room,’ which provides the same stunning Trocadéro view as the most expensive tables, albeit one row back from the window. The ambiance of the restaurant at night can best be described as an elegant brasserie set against the backdrop of the City of Lights. Minimalist furnishings and soft lighting enhance the view and create a sophisticated atmosphere.

A Culinary Journey

With two two-hour seatings each night, 58 Tour Eiffel runs with military precision, yet our friendly waiter creates the illusion of having all the time in the world.

Just as we finish our complimentary glass of Champagne, the entrée of spiced king prawns arrives, artfully arranged on a colorful bed of avocado, grapefruit, and sweet edible blooms.

The dish is far better than expected from what is essentially a tourist restaurant.

The roasted herbed guinea fowl breast that follows, served with mashed potatoes, green asparagus, and a mushroom cream sauce, is quintessentially French and equally impressive, as is my husband’s choice of grilled lamb.

Thankfully, there’s a break before the rich chocolate marquise dessert, allowing us to soak in the panoramic views and enjoy another glass of wine. We conclude the evening with a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, of course!
