I stumbled upon a charming little hotel in the chic neighborhood of Saint Germain during my first trip to Paris. As a newbie to the City of Lights, I had no idea where to even begin. I was just browsing online, trying to make sense of the city’s map, and reading countless Pinterest articles. Everyone seemed to be recommending The Marais, Montmartre, and Saint Germain as the best areas to stay. It was a stroke of luck that I discovered this gem, tucked away in Saint Germain, with its classic French charm and convenient location. I snapped it up before the price could climb any higher.
Little did I know how perfect this choice would be. As I delved deeper into the 6th arrondissement, I realized just how incredible Saint Germain truly is.
A Cozy Abode: The Hotel’s Character and Charm
The hotel itself is a petite, intimate space with a charming ambiance. Stepping through the front door, you’re greeted by a small reception desk, a cozy lobby with a few comfortable chairs, and a back parlor that transforms into a charming breakfast room. The decor is a symphony of rich, deep reds and luxurious fabrics, with a grand Murano glass chandelier gracing the lobby. My room, number 24, was on the second floor (or third floor, as we Americans call it). The elevator, quaint and tiny, could barely accommodate me and my suitcase.
My room, a classic double, was compact but perfectly comfortable for a solo traveler like myself. It boasted a king-sized bed (actually two twin beds pushed together), a quirky shape, and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling that whispered tales of the townhouse’s history. I enjoyed the unique character of the space.
A Delightful Breakfast: Fueling Up for Parisian Adventures
Each morning, I was treated to a delectable breakfast buffet for €12. A selection of hot coffee, tea, or chocolate awaited, along with a basket of fresh bread, and a spread of scrambled eggs, sausage, meats, toast and jam, Nutella, cheeses, fruits, and cereals. The breakfast room, with its elegant place settings and cozy ambiance, added to the charming experience. Most tables were designed for two, but there was one larger table for groups. While a basic breakfast, it was perfect for fueling up for my Parisian adventures, whenever I had time to spare.
Location, Location, Location: A Perfect Home Base in Saint Germain
The hotel’s location was truly exceptional. It was a stone’s throw from some of Paris’ most iconic landmarks and attractions. Les Deux Magots and Cafe Flore, renowned Parisian cafes, were mere steps away, and Le Bonaparte, another lovely cafe, was right around the corner. The oldest church in Paris, Église de Saint Germain des Prés, was a short walk from the hotel’s front door, and Metro line #4 was conveniently located at the base of the church. Line #10 Mabillon was just a few steps away. A Monoprix, a French supermarket, was across Boulevard Saint Germain, a quick stroll from the hotel. And for all my French skincare needs, City Pharma, one of my favorite stores, was just a block down Rue Bonaparte.
I couldn’t have asked for a better base for my Parisian explorations. It was truly an accidental discovery that turned out to be a perfect match. Saint Germain, with its historic charm, bustling cafes, and convenient location, stole my heart. This charming hotel, with its cozy rooms and delightful breakfast, provided the perfect haven for me to soak in the Parisian atmosphere.
