Booking.com strives to provide a platform for travelers to share their experiences and help others make informed decisions about their travel plans. We do this by collecting and displaying guest reviews from all over the world.
Understanding Booking.com’s Review System
Our review system aims to ensure that you have access to authentic and helpful information. To achieve this, we use a weighted review system in specific regions, giving more weight to recent reviews.
In addition, guests can provide separate scores for different aspects of their stay, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wi-Fi. This detailed feedback helps you understand the different strengths and weaknesses of each property.
It’s important to remember that the overall review score is calculated by averaging all individual reviews and that there’s no direct link between the overall score and the individual subscores.
How to Submit and Edit Your Review
You can submit a review for a property you booked through Booking.com if you actually stayed there or if you visited the property but didn’t stay. To edit a previously submitted review, please reach out to our Customer Service team.
Preventing Fake Reviews and Keeping Things Fair
We take the issue of fake reviews very seriously. Our team of specialists works tirelessly to detect and remove fraudulent reviews. We also take action against those responsible for submitting them.
If you spot something suspicious, feel free to report it to our Customer Service team, and our Fraud team will investigate the matter.
Setting Clear Guidelines for Reviews
We are dedicated to displaying a wide range of reviews, both positive and negative. However, we prohibit certain content, including impersonation and violations of our review guidelines.
To ensure that reviews remain relevant and useful, we only accept reviews submitted within three months of check-out. We may also stop displaying reviews older than 36 months or if the property changes ownership.
Properties are welcome to respond to reviews and share their perspectives.
Making Reviews Easy to Find and Understand
When viewing reviews, you’ll see the most recent ones at the top. We may also consider factors like the language of the review, whether it includes comments, and if it’s anonymous. You can sort and filter reviews by various criteria, such as time of year, review score, and type of traveler.
Sometimes, we may display reviews from other reputable travel websites. We always clearly indicate when this is the case.
Promoting Respect and Fairness
These guidelines aim to maintain the quality and relevance of Booking.com reviews while encouraging open and honest feedback. The guidelines apply to all reviews, regardless of their sentiment.
We encourage reviews that are detailed and informative, helping other travelers make better decisions. We discourage reviews that contain personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed, and any issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be directed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
All contributions should be appropriate for a global audience, avoiding offensive language, hate speech, discrimination, threats, explicit content, violence, and promotion of illegal activity.
We expect all reviews to be genuine and unique, reflecting the guest’s personal experience. Booking.com partners are not allowed to post reviews on behalf of guests or offer incentives for reviews. Attempts to harm competitors by submitting false negative reviews are strictly prohibited.
We respect the privacy of all users and make an effort to obscure personal information like email addresses, phone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in reviews belong to the individual guests and properties, not to Booking.com. We are not responsible for any reviews or responses and act solely as a distributor of this information.
Reviews are generally sorted by the date of the review, but we also take into account other factors, including the language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available based on traveler type, score, and other criteria.
