The Eiffel Tower. It’s a symbol of Paris, a breathtaking masterpiece of engineering, and a destination that promises an unforgettable experience. But what about dining at its very heart? Is it a tourist trap or a culinary masterpiece? I, Tiana Templeman, decided to find out.
Walking past the endless queues for the elevator, I felt a smug sense of accomplishment as my husband and I joined the smaller line reserved for diners at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant. The promise of a romantic evening with French wine, exquisite cuisine, and the dazzling backdrop of Paris filled me with anticipation.
However, a voice in the back of my mind whispered doubts. Could this be a tourist trap disguised as a fine dining experience? Would we be subjected to bland food, cheap wine, and the cacophony of tour groups?
An Evening of Parisian Charm
As we stepped into the restaurant’s exclusive elevator, the wrought iron structure of the tower loomed above us. Excitement bubbled within me as everyone jostled for the best view, eager to soak in the Parisian panorama. The anticipation was palpable.
The grand double doors swung open at precisely 6:30 p.m., revealing a bustling yet elegant scene. Guests were seated across two levels, with tour groups enjoying a separate area, leaving the intimate tables for two and four for those seeking a more personal experience.
The 58 Tour Eiffel offers three pre-booked dinner options, ranging from $118 to $165, depending on the table location and wine inclusion. We opted for the mid-priced “privileged seating” in the main room, which, to our delight, boasted the same Trocadéro view as the priciest tables, just one row back from the window. The restaurant’s minimalist furnishings and soft lighting perfectly complemented the stunning views.
Culinary Delights and Exceptional Service
The restaurant operates with military precision, offering two two-hour seatings per night. Despite the efficient pace, our friendly waiter created the illusion of an unhurried dining experience.
As we savored our welcome glass of Champagne, a delectable entrée of spiced king prawns arrived. Perfectly prepared and beautifully presented atop a vibrant medley of avocado, grapefruit, and edible blooms, the dish far exceeded my expectations. This wasn’t just a tourist restaurant serving bland food; it was a true culinary experience.
The main course, roasted herbed guinea fowl breast with mashed potato, green asparagus, and mushroom cream, was quintessentially French and equally impressive. My husband’s grilled lamb was equally delicious.
A rich chocolate marquise for dessert provided a delightful ending to our meal, leaving us with ample time to enjoy the breathtaking vista and another glass of wine before venturing to the top of the Eiffel Tower.
A Parisian Icon Delivering an Exceptional Dining Experience
From the exceptional food and friendly service to the unforgettable views, the 58 Tour Eiffel exceeded our expectations. It was a true Parisian experience that blended romance, culinary delight, and architectural wonder.
