A Culinary Journey at the Eiffel Tower: 58 Tour Eiffel

The Eiffel Tower has been a Parisian icon since its construction in 1889, but its culinary offerings have evolved significantly over the years. Originally, four restaurants graced the tower’s first floor, their kitchens humming with gas-powered ovens. However, as the tower’s role in the city transformed, so did its dining scene.

A History of Flavors: From Gaslights to Chic Brasseries

In the 1930s, the four original restaurants were demolished, making way for just two. These, in turn, underwent another transformation in the 1980s, when they were refurbished and renamed La Belle France and Le Parisien. These establishments became renowned for their exceptional French cuisine, drawing in both locals and tourists.

But the culinary journey didn’t end there. In the early 2000s, these two restaurants merged, creating a grand brasserie christened Altitude 95, a fitting name given its elevation of 95 meters above sea level. This airy space, designed by Slavik and Loup, featured a whimsical hot air balloon theme, offering diners a unique perspective on the city.

The Evolution of 58 Tour Eiffel

The Eiffel Tower’s dining experience took another leap in 2009 with the debut of 58 Tour Eiffel. This chic brasserie, completely renovated and redesigned by Patrick Jouin (the mastermind behind the Jules Verne restaurant’s interior design), embodied modern elegance. The culinary direction was entrusted to chef Alain Soulard, who brings his expertise honed alongside Alain Ducasse to the table, delivering exquisite French cuisine.

Lunch with a Parisian Flair: Chic Picnics in the Sky

During the day, 58 Tour Eiffel offers a delightful picnic-style lunch experience. From 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, guests can enjoy a non-stop service of delectable dishes, with the last orders for main courses accepted at 3:45 pm. The chic picnic theme is carried through in the presentation, with meals delivered in baskets to be enjoyed at your table.

The lunch menu features tempting choices like Caesar salad with Parmesan and caper berries, seared bonito tuna with mashed potatoes and sauce vierge, and roasted poultry risotto with a creamy mushroom sauce. For a sweet ending, the Crousti Eiffel cake with praline and chocolate is a must-try. Even the littlest diners are catered to with a dedicated children’s menu.

The picnic-style lunch offers a relaxed and informal setting, perfect for a casual bite while taking in the breathtaking views. And, since reservations aren’t required, you can simply drop by and enjoy a culinary adventure high above Paris.
