A Journey Through Time: The Eiffel Tower’s Culinary Evolution

The Eiffel Tower, a Parisian icon, has witnessed a fascinating culinary transformation since its inception in 1889.

A Culinary Tapestry: From Humble Beginnings to Chic Brasserie

The tower’s early days were marked by the presence of four restaurants gracing its first floor. These establishments, powered by gas lighting, boasted kitchens nestled beneath their floors.

However, time brought about a significant shift. The 1937 International Exposition saw the demolition of these four restaurants, replaced by just two. The 1980s ushered in a new era, as the Eiffel Tower underwent extensive renovations, resulting in the birth of La Belle France and Le Parisien – two renowned Parisian eateries.

But the culinary adventure continued. These two restaurants were merged into one grand brasserie in a move that marked a turning point in the tower’s dining scene. This hot air balloon-themed, Slavik and Loup-designed establishment was aptly named Altitude 95, reflecting its location 95 meters above sea level.

58 Tour Eiffel: A Modern Parisian Gem

The brasserie’s transformation wasn’t over yet. In 2009, a complete renovation brought about a chic makeover and a new name – 58 Tour Eiffel. This reimagining, under the artistic direction of Patrick Jouin, who also crafted the interior design of the Jules Verne restaurant, signaled a new chapter in the Eiffel Tower’s culinary narrative.

The food at 58 Tour Eiffel is a culinary masterpiece crafted by Chef Alain Soulard, a veteran of the Jules Verne and other prestigious restaurants. Soulard specializes in top-quality French cuisine, catering to both casual diners and grand events.

Dining Experiences: From Picnic Lunches to Romantic Evenings

The 58 Tour Eiffel offers a versatile dining experience, catering to diverse tastes and occasions.

During the day, the restaurant embraces a chic picnic vibe. Guests can enjoy non-stop service from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm, with last orders for main courses at 3:45 pm. Their basket-style service adds a delightful touch to the picnic theme, allowing diners to carry their lunch to their tables.

Evenings at the 58 Tour Eiffel take on a sophisticated ambiance. The restaurant transforms into a romantic haven, with contemporary decor, soft lighting, and minimalistic furniture, all designed by Patrick Jouin to evoke a sense of luxurious comfort without detracting from the stunning views.

Reservations are essential for evening dining, which is offered in two sittings: 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Guests are greeted by a hostess and escorted to their tables, where they can savor chic yet classic French cuisine.

A Culinary Journey: Menu Delights and Special Occasions

The 58 Tour Eiffel’s lunch menu offers a picnic-inspired experience with two-course and three-course options. These options, served at the counter, feature delicious dishes like Caesar salad, seared bonito tuna, roasted poultry risotto, and delectable desserts like the Crousti Eiffel cake. For the little ones, there’s a dedicated children’s menu.

Lunch at the 58 Tour Eiffel is accessible without reservations, starting at €19 per person. However, Eiffel Tower tickets are required for entry. Guests who prefer a quicker bite can find sandwiches and snacks at various locations within the Eiffel Tower.

The restaurant’s dinner menu offers a more refined experience with starters like seared tiger prawn and duck foie gras, followed by main courses such as seared salmon fillet and oven-roasted leg of lamb. These dishes are crafted with fresh ingredients and exquisite French techniques, ensuring a memorable dining experience.

For special occasions like wedding anniversaries or family holidays, the 58 Tour Eiffel offers the Service Premier, available at the 9:00 pm sitting. This privileged experience includes a tasting menu, aperitif, wine, and a choice of window seating for breathtaking views of the Trocadero.

The Service Premier is priced at €135 per person or €155 per person with window seating, a memorable investment for a special occasion.

Children under 12 are also catered to with a special children’s menu at a reduced cost, including a chocolate Eiffel Tower cake for a truly unique experience.

Reservations for evening dining can be made online through the official Eiffel Tower website. Even with a booking, Eiffel Tower tickets are still required for entry.

The 58 Tour Eiffel is a testament to the evolving culinary landscape of the Eiffel Tower, offering a dynamic dining experience for every taste and occasion. From its humble beginnings as a collection of restaurants to its current sophistication as a chic brasserie, the 58 Tour Eiffel continues to delight guests with its exceptional cuisine and breathtaking views, cementing its place as a culinary gem in the heart of Paris.
