Nestled in the breathtaking Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow, Powerscourt Hotel stands tall with the iconic Sugar Loaf mountain as its majestic backdrop. The moment you enter the grand foyer, opulence greets you with grand fireplaces, vibrant floral displays, and inviting seating areas accompanied by the soothing sounds of soft jazz music. This luxurious atmosphere instantly sets the tone for a truly relaxing and memorable experience.
A Haven of Luxury
Our previous stay in one of the suites overlooking the Sugar Loaf mountain left us utterly enchanted. The spacious suite boasts elegant gold and blue decor, featuring a lavish bathroom, a well-appointed dressing room, a comfortable bedroom, and a cosy sitting room. A private balcony with a table and chairs provides a breathtaking vista of the majestic mountain, inviting you to enjoy the stunning views.
Indulge in Culinary Delights
The suite’s grandeur is so captivating, you might find yourself reluctant to leave. On our previous visit, we enjoyed a delicious dinner served in our room with impeccable silver service. The hotel offers a variety of dining options, including the Sugar Loaf Lounge, perfect for a relaxing afternoon tea, a hearty soup, a light sandwich, or a simple coffee. The lounge offers a magnificent view, and we’ve always been fortunate to snag a window table.
For breakfast, the Sika restaurant, named after the Japanese Sika deer introduced to the estate by Lord Powerscourt in 1860, awaits. My personal favourite is the refreshing Greek yoghurt served with fresh fruit and granola, followed by a delicious cooked breakfast or a selection of pastries.
A Tranquil Garden Oasis
Stepping out of the hotel, you’ll be greeted by a charming downstairs terrace garden. During our last visit, we had a front-row seat to a beautiful wedding ceremony taking place in this idyllic spot.
A World of Wonder in Powerscourt Gardens
No visit to Powerscourt is complete without venturing to the enchanting Powerscourt House and Gardens, just a short ten-minute walk from the hotel. These historical gardens are truly out of this world, recently ranked third in the top ten gardens worldwide by National Geographic. It’s easy to see why! Even during a heavy downpour, the beauty of the gardens shines through. I couldn’t resist wandering through the romantic walled gardens, instantly transporting me back to my childhood and the pages of “The Secret Garden”.
Rejuvenating Ambiance
There’s an undeniable sense of peace and tranquility in these gardens. I highly recommend taking your time to explore and absorb the atmosphere.
Powerscourt Avoca – A Shopping Paradise
Of course, no trip to Powerscourt would be complete without a visit to Powerscourt Avoca, where we often enjoy a coffee and cake, pick out little gifts, and browse the beautiful selection of items. There’s also a large garden centre filled with gorgeous garden accessories, gifts, and an array of plants and flowers.
Indulge in Wellness and Recreation
The hotel boasts a stunning spa with a beautiful pool, perfect for a refreshing swim. And if you’re a golf enthusiast, the estate has a fabulous golf course. If retail therapy is calling, Dublin is just a short drive away (you can find my Dublin blog here).
A Refreshing Escape
A visit to Powerscourt is a truly refreshing experience, restoring both mind and body. You’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle any challenge life throws your way. I, for one, can’t wait to return to this enchanting destination.
