Eiffel Tower – the name evokes images of romance, grandeur, and Parisian charm. But is dining at this iconic landmark a “tourist trap” or a “culinary triumph”?
We decided to find out! Stepping past the mammoth queues for the elevator, we joined a smaller line reserved for those fortunate enough to have secured a reservation at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant.
Anticipation buzzed in the air as we ascended to the first floor. Our hearts pounded with a mix of excitement and trepidation: would it be a culinary masterpiece or a gastronomic disaster?
The Eiffel Tower’s first floor, a beacon of Parisian glamour, beckoned with its promise of a memorable night.
We were greeted by the restaurant’s majestic double doors, opening with a flourish at precisely 6:30 pm. We were swept into a world of Parisian sophistication, our eyes feasting on the breathtaking cityscape sprawling beneath us.
The restaurant’s two levels were alive with activity, a tapestry of both intimate tables for two and larger groups enjoying the view. The buzz of conversation mingled with the clinking of glasses, setting a lively, enchanting scene.
58 Tour Eiffel offers three pre-selected dinner menus, each priced from $118 to $165, depending on table location and whether wine is included.
We had opted for the mid-range option, securing “privileged seating in the main room,” which offered a panoramic vista of the Trocadéro – a view rivaling the most expensive tables.
The atmosphere was an exquisite blend of elegance and comfort, reminiscent of a charming French brasserie, all set against the mesmerizing backdrop of the City of Lights.
Minimalist furnishings and soft lighting perfectly complemented the breathtaking panoramic view, allowing the magic of Paris to take center stage.
The restaurant, known for its military precision, managed to maintain a sense of unhurried luxury, thanks to our gracious waiter who treated us like valued guests.
We were greeted with a welcoming glass of Champagne before embarking on a culinary journey. The entrée of spiced king prawns arrived, a symphony of fresh flavors – the sweetness of the prawns perfectly balanced by the tangy avocado and grapefruit and delicate edible blooms.
This was a delightful surprise, far exceeding our expectations for what we considered to be a tourist-oriented restaurant.
The roast herbed guinea fowl breast, a classic French dish, arrived next. Tender, succulent, and perfectly seasoned, it was accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes, vibrant green asparagus, and a rich mushroom cream sauce. This culinary masterpiece was a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality and tradition.
My husband’s choice of grilled lamb was equally impressive, showcasing the restaurant’s ability to cater to a range of palates.
A delightful break ensued before the rich chocolate marquise for dessert, allowing us to soak in the view and savor another glass of wine. We concluded our evening with a triumphant ascent to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a fitting end to a memorable dining experience.
The food, the service, and the ambiance all surpassed our expectations, creating a truly unforgettable Parisian evening.
58 Tour Eiffel is proof that a tourist destination can be a culinary delight, offering both a taste of Paris and a view to remember.
