Imagine yourself, walking past long lines of eager tourists, feeling a sense of smugness as you join a smaller queue, destined for a unique dining experience at the iconic Eiffel Tower.
My husband and I were heading to the first floor of the Eiffel Tower for an evening filled with French wine, exquisite cuisine, and romantic ambiance. But there was a glimmer of doubt in our minds; could this be a dinner-time nightmare with bland food, cheap wine, and hordes of tourists crowding around?
As we ascended in the exclusive lift of the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant, the wrought iron structure towering above us sparked an undeniable excitement. Every passenger in the lift was eager to catch a glimpse of the City of Lights and the spectacular dining venue awaiting them.
Anticipation and impatience filled the air as we approached the grand double doors, which swung open with a flourish at precisely 6:30 PM. Within minutes, guests were seated across the restaurant’s two levels, with tour groups placed in a designated area, separate from the intimate tables for two and four.
58 Tour Eiffel offers three pre-booked dinner options, ranging in price from $118 to $165, depending on the table location and whether wine is included. We were fortunate that our mid-priced booking, promising “privileged seating in the main room,” ended up offering the same stunning Trocadéro view as the most expensive tables, just one row back from the window.
The overall vibe of the restaurant at night could best be described as an elegant brasserie set against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris. Minimalist furnishings and soft lighting enhanced the experience of the captivating view.
With two two-hour seatings per night, 58 Tour Eiffel operates with military precision. Despite the organized schedule, our friendly waiter managed to create the illusion that we had all the time in the world to savor the evening.
Just as we finished our welcome glass of Champagne, the entrée of spiced king prawns arrived, beautifully presented atop a vibrant scattering of avocado, grapefruit, and sweet edible blooms. The dish was far better than we expected from what is essentially a tourist restaurant.
The roast herbed guinea fowl breast that followed, served with mashed potato, green asparagus, and mushroom cream, was quintessentially French and equally impressive. My husband’s choice of grilled lamb was equally delicious.
Thankfully, there was a break before the rich chocolate marquise for dessert, providing us with time to fully appreciate the view and enjoy another glass of wine. We ended our evening with a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, bien sûr!
With food and service that surpassed our expectations, this iconic dining experience truly delivered.
