Paris is a city renowned for its charm, style, and refinement, but nothing quite elevates a visit like epic views of the iconic Eiffel Tower. While many places in Paris offer glimpses of the Iron Lady, few can rival the unparalleled perspectives found at the Shangri-La Paris. This hotel is so special, it averages several marriage proposals each week!
A Royal Residence Transformed into Luxury
Named one of Forbes Vetted’s best hotels in Paris, this luxurious property has a fascinating history. It was once the home of Prince Roland Bonaparte, Napoleon’s nephew, and the same air of opulence still pervades its grounds, located directly across the river from the Eiffel Tower. I recently had the pleasure of staying at this historic hotel and experiencing its views firsthand. Let me share my journey with you!
Indulge in Tranquility and Rejuvenation
Nestled in the former stables of the royal residence, Shangri-La Paris boasts a lavish spa, Chi. Here, you’ll find a fusion of traditional French and Asian body and facial treatments. After a long flight, I opted for a 45-minute Lift and Glow facial to combat my travel-induced puffiness. The treatment featured skincare products from the French luxury brand Guerlain—found in all the hotel rooms as well—and was just what I needed to kick off my Parisian adventure.
The real gem of the spa, however, is the hotel’s stunning swimming pool, adorned with grandiose columns and floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the lush gardens. The hotel also features a Health Club with a wide range of fitness machines, ensuring you can stay active during your stay.
Waking Up to Eiffel Tower Views
The guest rooms at Shangri-La Paris are famed for having some of the best Eiffel Tower sight lines in the city, with 40% of the rooms and 60% of the suites offering direct views of the iconic landmark. My room didn’t disappoint! I stayed in an Eiffel View Room on the ground floor, where I woke each morning to a delightful breakfast of coffee and pain au chocolate on my terrace. All I had to do was lift my head to see the tower majestically looming over me.
The room featured a comfortable king-size bed with a custom mattress and extremely soft linens, as well as a luxurious marble bathroom with a soaking tub. I ended each evening by snapping photos of the sparkling Eiffel Tower, which lights up every hour starting at sunset.
Romance and Luxury in Every Corner
During my stay, I took a tour of the grandiose La Suite Shangri-La, which boasts a furnished terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower. It felt like the perfect place for a proposal, so it’s no surprise that the suite is routinely booked for such occasions, along with other romantic events like honeymoons and anniversaries.
Also available to book is the historic L’Appartement Prince Bonaparte, the former private residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte. This truly opulent one-bedroom apartment features authentic crown moldings and a spacious living area bathed in blue and gold.
Dining Delights: From French Classics to Michelin-Starred Cuisine
Paris is home to some of the world’s best restaurants, but I was completely blown away by the on-site dining at Shangri-La Paris. Alongside Le Bar Botaniste, a stylish bar showcasing botanical-forward spirits, there are two fine dining establishments.
First, there’s La Bauhinia, an all-day dining concept serving up classic French cuisine. I was there during the first week of the restaurant’s new summer menu, and I indulged in seafood-forward favorites like tuna carpaccio, sea bass, and a catch of the day baked in a banana leaf alongside okra, mango, and spice rice. Of course, there was plenty of rosé to accompany these delicious dishes.
The real star of the show, however, is Shang Palace, the only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant in Paris. I’ve visited Paris countless times, and my meal at this restaurant ranks among the best I’ve had. Serving traditional Cantonese fine dining with a modern twist, I savored delicious dim sum, like lobster wontons and shrimp and pork dumplings with crab roe, as well as Peking duck. Every dish was phenomenal, and the service was impeccable. I’m already planning my next visit to this culinary gem!
A Prime Location for Exploration
Shangri-La Paris enjoys a superb location: right in the city’s 16th arrondissement, it’s just steps away from the Seine river, the Trocadero, and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. The property is within walking distance of numerous museums and galleries, like the Musée Yves Saint Laurent, the Palais de Tokyo, and the Musée d’Art Moderne, as well as restaurants like the classic bistro Les Marches and the Instagram-worthy Girafe.
During my stay, I took a short stroll from the hotel and spent a lovely afternoon exploring La Galerie Dior, a museum dedicated to the history of the Christian Dior fashion house, located adjacent to the Dior flagship store.
Easy Access to Parisian Charms
Shangri-La Paris is a 45-minute drive from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport or a 30-minute drive from Paris-Orly Airport. Its closest subway station is Iéna on Métro Line 9, making it incredibly easy to explore the city.
Shangri-La Paris offers an unforgettable experience, blending luxury, history, and breathtaking views. Whether you’re seeking a romantic escape, a luxurious getaway, or simply a taste of Parisian elegance, this hotel is sure to exceed your expectations.
