Feeling a sense of superiority, we skip the massive lift lines and join a smaller queue for the exclusive 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant. Our goal: an enchanting evening of French wine, exquisite cuisine, and romance, all set against the backdrop of the iconic Eiffel Tower. But what if it’s a culinary nightmare, filled with tasteless food, cheap wine, and a swarm of tourists?

The anticipation is palpable. As we ascend the tower in the dedicated lift, excitement ripples through the group, each person eager to capture a glimpse of Paris and their dining destination. The grand double doors open with a flourish, revealing a bustling restaurant spread across two levels. We’re ushered to our seats, tour groups carefully separated from intimate tables for two and four.

The restaurant offers three pre-booked dinner options, priced from $118 to $165, depending on table location and wine inclusion. Our mid-priced booking lands us in the main room, boasting the same Trocadéro view as the priciest tables, just a row back from the window. An elegant brasserie with minimalist furnishings and soft lighting, the restaurant beautifully complements the breathtaking views of the City of Lights.

A Delicious Journey

The service is efficient, with a friendly waiter who somehow makes us feel like we have all the time in the world. Even though there are two two-hour seatings each night, the experience is seamless. We savor our welcome glass of Champagne as the first course arrives: spiced king prawns atop a colorful medley of avocado, grapefruit, and edible blossoms. Far exceeding our expectations for a tourist restaurant, the dish is an explosion of flavor and texture.

The following course, roast herbed guinea fowl breast, is pure French indulgence. Served with mashed potatoes, green asparagus, and mushroom cream, it’s a culinary masterpiece. My husband opts for the grilled lamb, equally impressive.

Dessert is a decadent chocolate marquise, a rich and satisfying ending to the meal. The dessert arrives after a brief pause, allowing us to soak in the breathtaking view and enjoy another glass of wine. Our Parisian adventure concludes with a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, a fitting end to a memorable evening.
