SkyMiles Membership Rewards

If you’re a SkyMiles member, you can rack up miles on most Delta flights. However, keep in mind that flights booked under the Basic Economy fare don’t earn you miles or contribute to your Medallion Status.

Basic Economy Fare

When you choose Basic Economy, remember that it’s non-refundable and can’t be changed. You’ll also need to wait until you check in to get your seat assigned.

What’s more, upgrades – both paid and free – are not available for this fare.

Baggage Fees

To make sure your luggage is ready for your adventure, let’s talk about baggage fees.

For domestic flights within the United States, including Puerto Rico, the first checked bag costs $35 and the second checked bag is $45.

This fee also applies to travel between the United States and Canada.

When traveling to and from Central America, excluding El Salvador and Panama, as well as the Caribbean, Guyana, Bermuda, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, you’ll find the same $35 fee for the first checked bag and $45 for the second.

For travel to and from Mexico, the fees are also consistent – $35 for the first and $45 for the second checked bag.

Let’s take a look at some other destinations and their associated baggage fees:

  • Bahamas: $35 for the first bag and $60 for the second (specific islands: North Eleuthera, Exuma, and Marsh Harbour)
  • El Salvador and Panama: $35 for the first (Basic Economy only) and $45 for the second
  • Ecuador and Colombia: $45 for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second
  • Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay: $70 for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second
  • Other South American Destinations: $60 for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second. Main Cabin fares offer a free first checked bag and $60 for the second.
  • Europe: $75 USD or 70 EUR for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 USD or 85 EUR for the second
  • Africa: $75 USD for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second (except Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia). Free first bag and $100 for the second (Basic Economy only) for other African destinations, Middle East, and India.
  • Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia: $75 USD for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second for travel from the United States. No fee for the first bag and $100 USD or 85 EUR for the second when traveling to the United States.
  • Israel: $60 USD for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 for the second
  • Asia: Free first bag and $100 for the second (Basic Economy only) for most Asian destinations. Free first bag and $100 for the second for travel to and from Australia, New Zealand, China, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.
  • French Polynesia: $60 USD or 50 EUR for the first (Basic Economy only) and $100 USD or 85 EUR for the second

Award Travel

Redeeming your SkyMiles for a free flight is a great way to travel! Award travel is subject to taxes, fees, and carrier-imposed charges that you’ll need to pay when you book your flight.

Award seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or to every destination.

For Award Travel booked in Main Cabin or higher, members can change or cancel their flights without a redeposit or change fee for travel originating in the United States and Canada.

Changes, Cancellations, and Refunds

While most tickets are non-refundable, they may be eligible for a refund under our cancellation policy.
