Paris, the City of Lights, is also a culinary wonderland for those who love to indulge in gastronomic delights. With so many restaurants, bakeries, wine cellars, and food tours, it’s impossible to experience everything. But we’re here to help you discover some of the best food experiences in Paris that are worth a visit on your next trip.
Steak Frites: A Parisian Classic
You can’t go to Paris without trying steak frites, a staple dish found in almost every corner bistro. But if you’re looking for a truly exceptional experience, head to La Bourse et La Vie, the latest venture by acclaimed chef Daniel Rose. The crispy, flavorful fries and airy cheese gougéres are just a prelude to the perfectly cooked steak. You’ll be tempted to devour everything but remember to save room for the delicious main course.
French-Korean Fusion: A Culinary Adventure
Pierre Sang Boyer, a Top Chef semifinalist, brings French and Korean flavors together in a harmonious fusion at his Parisian restaurant. We were treated to a unique lunch, featuring periodic visits from the chef himself, who added to the delightful experience. Each dish was a mystery, with hidden ingredients that we had to guess before being revealed. My personal favorite was the salmon with mashed cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, and pickled onions. The Waygu Beef with mushroom gravy was equally impressive, with a secret ingredient of Jerusalem artichoke chips.
Parisian Brasserie: A Taste of Local Charm
After a quick check-in at the luxurious Hotel Napoleon, we were craving a Parisian classic. A short walk down the side streets led us to Le Monte Carlo Brasserie, a hidden gem a few blocks off the Champs-Elysées. The simple yet delicious Poulet frites and cassoulet were just what we needed after our travel. This brasserie is a popular spot for locals during their lunch breaks, serving ample portions of homemade dishes and desserts.
Corner Bistro: A Taste of Parisian Hospitality
Forget those misconceptions about unwelcoming French people! We had a delightful dinner at L’Etoile 1903, a cozy corner bistro, where we were met with warm hospitality and playful humor. The friendly waiter made sure we had a memorable experience, even insisting on being in our photo! L’Etoile 1903 has an extensive menu and wine list, offering affordable options just steps away from the metro. It’s the perfect spot for a late-night gathering.
EatWith: A Culinary Journey into Parisian Homes
One of the best things about traveling is the chance to meet local people and immerse yourself in their culture. EatWith makes it easy to dine at a local home, and we had the pleasure of experiencing Parisian hospitality at Diane’s beautiful home. Her multi-level home features a rooftop garden and terrace with stunning views of the Eiffel Tower and Sacre Couer. We enjoyed a delicious multi-course meal, lovingly prepared by Diane, a world traveler herself. The evening was filled with stories and fun, and we even had the opportunity to sample honey from Diane’s rooftop beehive. EatWith hosts meals in over 60 countries, offering a unique way to experience authentic local cuisine.
Alain Ducasse’s Cooking School: A Hands-On Culinary Experience
Foodies will love the opportunity to take a class at Michelin-starred chef Alain Ducasse’s L’école de Cuisine. This unique culinary experience allows you to learn firsthand from expert chefs. We donned aprons and picked up knives, learning to fillet fish, trim artichokes, and more. And the best part? We got to taste the fruits of our labor, which were delicious. The school is welcoming and offers a variety of classes, making it a great choice for aspiring cooks.
Rungis International Market: A Food Lover’s Paradise
For hardcore foodies, a visit to Rungis International Market is a must. This massive market, located just outside Paris, is the largest fresh produce market in the world. You won’t believe the scale of this complex: it spans 573 acres and employs 13,000 people. It’s a city of markets, with different sections dedicated to fish, meats, fruits & vegetables, dairy products, and flowers. Tours are available, starting early in the morning, giving you a glimpse into the bustling world of food sourcing.
La Grand Cascade: A Parisian Culinary Landmark
Dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris is always a special occasion, and La Grand Cascade is no exception. This historic restaurant, once the lodge of Napoleon III, boasts a beautiful interior and exterior. The outdoor terrace promises a peaceful escape from the bustling streets of Paris. Imagine enjoying a gourmet meal on a sunny day, surrounded by the beauty of this landmark restaurant.
Publicis Drugstore: A Parisian Emporium
Don’t let the name fool you! Publicis Drugstore is much more than a pharmacy. Located at the bottom of the Publicis building on the Champs-Elysées, this trendy store is a one-stop shop for everything from books and wine to fashion and gourmet food. You’ll find freshly baked pastries, a wide selection of cheeses and wines, and even Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in the basement. It’s the perfect spot to pick up a picnic or indulge in some high-end dining.
