Paris is a beautiful city, even when it’s cloudy, but who wouldn’t love to see some sunshine? Especially as summer is just around the corner, and we all want to soak up the warmth on terraces and by the water. But when will the rain finally stop and the sun return to the capital? Let’s take a look at the weather forecast.
A Sunless City
Even though Paris is always bustling with amazing things to do, rain can definitely dampen the mood. Although the city sometimes sees grey skies, the extended rainfall has us yearning for some sunshine. With so much grey in the air, everyone’s asking: when will the rain end?
We can’t wait to escape the grey skies and enjoy sunny days on terraces and leisurely walks. Every ray of sunshine is a welcome sight as we eagerly watch the sky hoping to see a hint of blue.
A Cloudy Forecast
Sadly, June in Paris and northern France isn’t looking very promising. Summer is almost here, but instead of sunshine, we’ve got showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Météo-France predicts that the bad weather will continue into the beginning of the week, with even more thunderstorms on the horizon.
A Glimpse of Sun, Then More Rain
Early in the week, temperatures will be cool in the mornings, but warm in the afternoons. Showers are expected across Paris, Normandy, and near the English Channel, while the south of France enjoys sunshine and warmer temperatures.
From Wednesday, there’s a little bit of good news: the sun will make a brief appearance across the country, although thunderstorms are expected on the Atlantic coast. However, the sun’s return is short-lived, and rain is forecast to return on Thursday, affecting the whole country.
The weekend looks promising for most of France, with sunshine in most regions, except for a few showers in the Massif Central and eastern France. But will the sunshine last, or will the rain return?
Is the Fête de la Musique in Jeopardy?
The Fête de la Musique is almost here, and everyone’s excited about the free concerts. But will the rain put a damper on the festivities? We’ll have to wait and see what the weather forecast says for Friday, June 21st.
Unusually Cool June
Since mid-May, only eight days have seen temperatures above average. June 11th, 12th, and 13th were particularly cold, with temperatures about 3 degrees below normal. The first two weeks of June were the coolest in Paris since June 2001!
Last week, cool, unsettled weather arrived with polar air. A low-pressure system from Greenland settled over the British Isles, pushing high pressure further out to sea. Although this situation is mild, it’s the reason behind the recent cooler weather.
Looking for Brighter Days
The current gloomy weather feels even worse because of the recent warm months. Last June, the average temperature was much higher than normal, making this June’s coolness even more noticeable.
There’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon: the return of the Azores anticyclone could bring calmer, sunnier weather around June 23rd. However, it’s unlikely to be a scorching summer, and temperatures will probably remain relatively cool.
Waiting for Sunshine
We’ll have to wait a little longer for the sunshine to return in full force. The forecast predicts gradual improvement, but cool, unsettled weather is expected to continue until the end of the month. In the meantime, there are plenty of great things to do in Paris, rain or shine!
