Welcome to the iconic Eiffel Tower! This guide provides essential tips and instructions to make your visit safe and enjoyable. You’ll find information about security checks, prohibited items, and tips for a worry-free experience.
Safety First: Understanding the Rules and Regulations
This guide is based on the Eiffel Tower’s visit regulations, which you can access here. Please read these regulations before your visit. They’ll help you plan your trip smoothly and ensure the safety of everyone at the tower.
Remember: The Eiffel Tower, like all public facilities in France, has strict security measures in place. The “Vigipirate” plan, currently at the “increased security – risk of attack” level, is enforced. Be prepared for two security checks: one at the entrance and another before you reach the elevator or stairs.
What to Bring and What to Leave Behind: Prohibited Items and Luggage Policy
Safety is our top priority. For this reason, certain items are strictly prohibited inside the Eiffel Tower. This includes anything that could pose a risk to people or the monument.
Be mindful of your belongings. Items like Swiss army knives are considered weapons and are not allowed. The security team cannot make exceptions or store these items during your visit.
Luggage is also subject to restrictions. We understand you want to make the most of your time in Paris, but large luggage is not permitted inside the tower. There are no luggage lockers or storage facilities available. A luggage sizer at the security check will indicate the maximum size allowed. If your luggage exceeds this size, you will need to store it elsewhere before your visit, such as at your hotel or a train station.
Navigating With Children: Strollers, Scooters, and Bicycles
The Eiffel Tower is a fantastic experience for families with children of all ages! We welcome folding strollers to make it easier for families to navigate the tower. However, non-folding strollers, scooters, and bicycles are not allowed due to their size.
Remember: Children under 4 years old enter for free. If your children use roller blades or skates, they must be stored in a bag during your visit.
Keep Your Belongings Secure and Enjoy the View
Always keep your bags and strollers in sight. An unattended bag can trigger security protocols, potentially disrupting the visit for all guests.
Lost something? If you’re still at the tower and know where you last had it, inform a member of the reception team or the Information desk. If you realize you’ve lost something after your visit, access the “Lost Property” service online.
The view from the Eiffel Tower is breathtaking! You might be tempted to take photos over the railing, but this is strictly forbidden. It’s incredibly dangerous. A phone or selfie stick could slip and fall, potentially injuring someone.
Accommodating Fears of Heights
If you have a fear of heights, consider avoiding the top floor of the Eiffel Tower. The climb from the second floor is an amazing experience, but it can be challenging for those with acrophobia.
We recommend purchasing tickets for access to the second floor, which includes the first floor and offers equally stunning views.
