Sunset: A Trendy Cocktail Bar with a Touch of Class

Let’s talk about my neighborhood. It’s a place I adore, and I’m always thrilled when a new eatery or drinking spot pops up. Sunset, a stylish cocktail bar, has been open since last November, but I finally had the chance to check it out recently with a friend. From the outside, the first thing that caught our eye was the inviting, heated patio. It was a chilly evening, and the patio was already packed with trendy folks.

We stepped inside, and a friendly bartender greeted us with a smile behind the glowing bar. One of the charming waitresses showed us to the back room after we mentioned wanting to grab a drink and a bite. While the front area near the bar exudes a lively, modern vibe, the back room has a more laid-back, lounge atmosphere. Comfy armchairs, soft candlelight, a red carpet, and blue walls with an unusual pattern (like someone went wild with a chisel, creating a ton of small holes) contrast with a yellow geometric pattern on the ceiling. It’s a little busy and not quite my style, but it definitely grabs your attention.

The Food and Drinks: A Delightful Experience

We started with a cocktail, and I, of course, had to try the “Red Sunset” (8 Euros). It was a pleasant drink, although a bit too fruity for my liking. The waitress was incredibly friendly and, sensing my non-French accent (I can’t seem to shake it…maybe I need a voice coach!), she promptly switched to English.

We glanced at the menu, and every dish (6-10 Euros) sounded better than the next. We ultimately decided on the following: roasted pumpkin (with smoked ricotta cheese, sunflower seeds, and Parmesan shavings…absolutely delicious!), hanger steak (cooked in whiskey and served with pureed carrots, béarnaise sauce, herring eggs, and sautéed potato cubes…divine!), and a spiced chicken burger (the chicken had a pulled pork-like texture, combined with homemade guacamole and a mini side salad…pretty tasty!).

Although the dim lighting made for less-than-stellar photos, I think they’re enough to make your mouth water a bit, don’t you think? The food was amazing and satisfying, even if the plates were a little small. But then again, you don’t expect huge portions at these cocktail/tapas bars.

Ending on a Sweet Note

Intrigued by the dessert menu (and still a little peckish), we ordered a dessert: cheesecake with citrus fruits from the Amalfi coast and a side of limoncello and yuzu flavored shaved ice (6 Euros). It was a light, creamy, and tangy treat.

Next time I go, I’ll aim for a seat in the front bar area. It seemed to have a more fun and relaxed vibe. The back room, on the other hand, felt a bit stuffy and posh. Or maybe it was just the crowd that night, which I found a little too pretentious and “bobo.” But overall, Sunset is a classy addition to the neighborhood and a great place to take a date or a business client you want to impress. I’ll definitely be back for the food!
