Dining at the iconic Eiffel Tower is a dream for many travelers. It’s a chance to enjoy French cuisine with breathtaking views of the City of Lights. But is it a tourist trap or a culinary masterpiece? We decided to find out.
Beyond the Tourist Trap
Walking past the long lines of tourists waiting for the elevator, we felt a sense of smugness as we joined the smaller queue for those dining at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant. The anticipation was palpable. Could we expect an unforgettable evening of fine dining and romance, or would it be a nightmarish experience filled with mediocre food and crowds of tourists?
Elevated Expectations
As we stepped into the exclusive elevator, we were surrounded by fellow diners, all eager to catch a glimpse of the city below. The excitement was contagious, and our anticipation reached new heights.
The moment the grand double doors swung open at precisely 6:30 pm, we were transported into a world of elegance. The two-level restaurant was bustling with activity, with tour groups in a designated area and smaller groups enjoying intimate tables for two and four.
A Parisian Feast
58 Tour Eiffel offers a variety of pre-booked dinner options, with prices ranging from $118 to $165, depending on the table location and whether wine is included. We opted for the mid-priced option, which promised “privileged seating in the main room.” To our delight, our table had the same breathtaking Trocadéro view as the most expensive tables, albeit one row back from the window.
The restaurant’s minimalist furnishings and soft lighting created an elegant atmosphere, enhancing the beauty of the view. It was like a Parisian brasserie set against the stunning backdrop of the City of Lights.
Service with a Smile
With two two-hour seatings per night, the restaurant runs with military precision. However, our friendly waiter managed to create the illusion that we had all the time in the world.
As we savored our welcome glass of Champagne, the entrée arrived. Spiced king prawns were artfully arranged atop a bed of avocado, grapefruit, and sweet edible blooms. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and creativity of the dish, exceeding our expectations for a “tourist restaurant.”
French Flavors and Stunning Views
Our main course was just as impressive. My husband chose the grilled lamb, while I opted for the roast herbed guinea fowl breast, served with mashed potato, green asparagus, and mushroom cream. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, a true testament to French culinary excellence.
After our meal, we enjoyed a moment of respite, allowing ourselves to take in the breathtaking views and savor another glass of wine. The rich chocolate marquise for dessert was the perfect ending to our memorable dining experience.
A Must-Try Experience
With food and service exceeding our expectations, this iconic dining experience delivered on its promises. We highly recommend 58 Tour Eiffel to anyone looking for a special occasion dinner with a truly unforgettable setting.
