This is Iron Lady, the twelfth mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it’s a heart-pounding continuation of the previous mission, “Bag and Drag”. A Rescue Gone Wrong
The mission begins with Frost and his Metal Team, along with a captive, waiting for extraction. However, as their V-22 Osprey arrives, it’s struck by enemy rockets, spiraling out of control and crashing into a chaotic pile of vehicles. Metal Team is left stranded in the middle of the battlefield, their primary extraction point now a smoking crater.
Warhammer to the Rescue
Enter Warhammer, an AC-130 gunship, tasked with escorting Metal Team to a new extraction point. This formidable flying fortress is equipped with devastating firepower and ready to unleash hell on the enemy. Their mission: clear the way for extraction and eliminate any threats in their path.
The Roundabout Rampage
As a wave of enemy infantry, tanks, and helicopters surges through a busy roundabout, Warhammer unleashes its fury, obliterating the Russian forces in a fiery explosion. Just as the dust settles, a trio of A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, known as Odin 6, joins the fray, delivering a devastating bombing run that wipes out the remaining enemy armor.
Streets of Destruction
With the roundabout secure, Metal Team pushes forward, only to be met with more hostile forces. Warhammer decimates the enemy infantry, clearing the way for Metal Team’s advance. The Delta squad continues to press onward, facing a constant barrage of enemy fire, but Warhammer remains a steadfast ally, blasting away any opposition.
The Building Collapse
Metal Team reaches a fork in the road, but is quickly pinned down by heavy RPG fire from a building at the junction. Warhammer, with permission from Overlord, unleashes its firepower, causing half of the building to collapse, silencing the enemy threat.
Hotel Hostage
Metal Team takes a left at the fork, moving towards a hotel across the street. As they move, enemy MiGs target Warhammer, forcing the gunship to deploy flares and maneuver sharply to avoid incoming missiles. Thankfully, American fighter jets arrive just in time to intercept the MiGs. However, the fighters cannot stay long, leaving Warhammer to continue its mission.
Inside the Embassy
Inside the hotel, Metal Team is pinned down by enemy fire. Warhammer is unable to provide fire support due to the intense hostile fire. Faced with this predicament, Sandman, the team leader, orders Frost and Truck to flank the enemy machine gunner pinning them down. They navigate the hotel’s corridors, engaging a small group of Russians before reaching a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Frost, equipped with a sniper rifle, takes out the machine gunner, clearing the way for Metal Team to push into the courtyard and confront the remaining hostiles inside the embassy.
Tanks and Smoke Markers
As they advance, a Russian tank appears. Frost throws a smoke marker near the tank, guiding Warhammer’s fire and eliminating the enemy threat. With the immediate danger cleared, Metal Team awaits extraction, but their position is quickly surrounded by Russian forces.
A Humvee Convoy
Warhammer unleashes its fury, clearing a path for the arrival of Humvees. The convoy is quickly targeted by Russian forces, prompting Metal Team and their captive to board the vehicles. As they speed through the French streets, they barely dodge incoming rocket fire from Russian MiGs. Sandman orders Grinch to man the .50 cal machine gun, mounted on top of the Humvee, providing additional firepower.
Chasing the Convoy
Two enemy vehicles pursue the convoy, followed by helicopters, but Warhammer quickly eliminates them, clearing the way for the convoy’s escape. As the convoy makes sharp turns to avoid enemy vehicles, Warhammer intercepts and destroys them, paving the way for their escape. Finally, they reach an intersection where three enemy tanks stand ready to destroy the convoy. However, Warhammer’s overwhelming firepower quickly eliminates the threat.
A Bridge Under Fire
The convoy turns right and drives along the Seine River, evading relentless pursuit by enemy helicopters. Warhammer, with precise aim, destroys each helicopter that dares to attack. As they reach the Pont d’Iéna, a tank round hits the lead Humvee, flipping it over. Warhammer opens fire on the tanks stationed on the bridge, while Frost grabs a Javelin and destroys two tanks. With smoke markers guiding Warhammer, Metal Team advances across the bridge, narrowly dodging a Russian MiG that misses its target and crashes into the bridge.
Extraction Under Siege
Sandman throws down red smoke, marking the extraction point. However, enemy helicopters drop more infantry, and Warhammer, low on fuel, is forced to return to base. A massive enemy force, consisting of tanks and infantry, converges on Metal Team, closing in from the direction of the Eiffel Tower. Odin 6 returns for a bombing run, but with no smoke markers available, it is forced to fly dangerously close to Metal Team’s position, eliminating the enemy forces. The Eiffel Tower, weakened by the constant bombardment, finally collapses into the river, a symbol of the chaos that unfolded in the streets of Paris.
A Rescue Amidst the Ruins
As the dust settles, American helicopters swarm the landing zone, finally ready to extract Metal Team. Everyone boards a Little Bird, except for Grinch and Volk, who wait for the next helicopter. Metal Team is finally extracted from the bridge, leaving behind the wreckage of the Eiffel Tower as a testament to their harrowing mission. Additional helicopters arrive to secure the bridge while airstrikes pound a nearby building, leaving the fate of Paris uncertain.
