Do you love art? Are you planning a trip to Paris? Then you might be interested in learning about the Musée d’Orsay, a world-renowned museum housing an incredible collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings. But how can you enjoy this artistic treasure trove for free?
Free Access for Young People and Special Groups
If you’re between 18 and 25 years old and live in the European Union or the European Economic Area, you can enjoy free access to the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie. This applies even if you aren’t a citizen of the European Union but are a long-term resident of France or another EU country.
Do you have a “Carte Blanche” membership to the Musée d’Orsay? Bring a guest along and explore the museum together without paying an entry fee.
Are you a member of the “Amis du musée d’Orsay” or “American Friends of the Musée d’Orsay”? Your membership card for the current year allows you free entry. The same goes for members of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, but they can bring only one guest.
Benefits for Students, Teachers, and the Arts Community
Students pursuing art-related studies in universities or public art schools in France get free access to the Musée d’Orsay. This includes students of architecture, art history, archaeology, plastic arts, graphic arts, design, photography, cinema, audiovisual arts, fashion and styling, museum studies, and heritage and landscape. Just make sure you’re under 30 years old and present a valid school card showing your field of study.
Teachers in these same art-related fields can also enjoy free access with a valid teacher’s card showing the field of study for the current year.
Free Admission for Special Needs and Professionals
Individuals receiving French active solidarity income (RSA) or other equivalent benefits can enjoy free entry with a certificate from the CAF or city hall and a photo ID. Holders of the minimum old age pension also qualify for free admission.
Are you disabled? A disability card or “priority card for disabled persons” will grant you free entry, and you can bring one accompanying person.
If you work in the arts or cultural sphere, you might be eligible for free admission. This includes staff of the Ministry of Culture, curators and inspectors general of museums, art critics, journalists, and tour guides. Make sure to bring proof of your current professional status to access the museum for free.
Free Admission for Groups and Officials
Groups of social assistance recipients can enjoy free admission with an accompanying person.
Teachers with a “Pass Éducation” can also bring one accompanying person and enter the Musée d’Orsay for free.
Finally, French MPs, senators, and members of the European Parliament can also enjoy free admission with their official identity cards.
